In her career working with science, technology, and medical professionals, founder Dorothy Zolandz saw again and again how exceptional subject matter experts could struggle when they moved into leadership roles.  She saw the same thing in her volunteer roles, when passionate experts in nonprofit organizations became executive directors.  With her strong belief in the positive impact that capable leadership has on organizations, she determined to help build other leaders based on her own experience.

Before founding D-Z Impact, Dorothy was an SME-turned-senior-executive at the US National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, a large science nonprofit with global reach and membership. During her 30-year career at NASEM, she helped drive strategic direction, culture, and cross-organizational synergies.  She served as a thought partner on strategy to C-suite leaders and coach to senior SMEs on leadership, managing up, and effective influence.

Her board service includes leadership roles on the Board of Trustees of Boys Town, a nonprofit serving over 250,000 youth annually throughout the US.  She chairs the board’s Health Care committee, with oversight of the Boys Town National Research Hospital, as well as Boys Town’s translational research, speech and language research, and neurological research centers.
